STOP! Think Before You Throw Anything Away
Think about everything you throw away. Can something else be done with it? Can it be recycled, or can someone else make good use of it?
So don’t throw away or simply burn old clothes, books, kid’s toys, or even furniture, but instead give them to your local charity shop instead. You will be helping other people and the environment too.
Your local charity will also make money from the sales of these goods for a charitable cause, like helping the aged or cancer research, so you can find this type of recycling as altruistic as you like; it only involves you giving unwanted or no longer loved items away.
There are also places that will take your empty ink cartridges away, and either refill them for them at a considerably cheaper price than buying new ones, or they will donate a certain amount to charity for each one they receive and then dispose off responsibly.
The same goes for disposing of your old cell phones, which may be reused by new owners, or sent safely to cell phone heaven. You should never just throw away a cell phone, as they many contain lead, bromide or mercury which are highly toxic to the environment.
I really would recommend that you analyze everything that you throw away. Even things like tires and be recycled into useful products like rubber mulch, which can be used for things like rubber landscaping, equine arena footing, and playground surfaces. So by recycling tires, you can make plants healthier, horses more happy and children safer. Not bad for one little action.
