The Playground: A Place Where Children Can Grow

Your local playground is an important place for your children to go when they are young, as believe it or not, it is a place where they can get much needed exercise and develop social skills that will still apply in their adult life.

The apparatus in a playground, will vary from place to place, but are likely to include swings, merry-go-rounds, slides, climbing frames and see-saws to name a few. Children using these apparatus on a regular basis will gain confidence, balance, strength and flexibility - all important attributes in growing up and daily life.

Children can also learn social skills in a playground. In fact, research indicates that the playground is one the most important places, outside of home where children learn important social skills. Your child is likely to interact with other children at a playground and the spontaneous play and games that results, is what is recognized as an important part of growing up.

Research also shows that playgrounds that have a large area of trees, a field or wasteland are also important for children, as they tend to claim these areas as their own – no adults allowed. These are ideal areas for chasing and ball games, which are very popular with children and keeps them active.

Other recreational areas in a playground, like baseball parks and basket ball courts, could well become places that your child frequents, as they get a little older and learn the importance of being in a team.

For your peace of mind, it always good to choose a playground with a rubber mulch playground surface, as this will result in less knocks and bumps when your child is tearing around and making new friends.
