2 Playground Games That Make Kids Think
Video games and all sorts of media pervasion put up a tough challenge for parents. Kids need the outdoors, and most of the time, the only way to make them go out is to offer something more interesting than video games.
The good news for parents is that public playgrounds are free, and they offer hours of outdoor fun especially when you get creative. Suggested below are 2 types of playground games. Not only are these fun, they also push your kids to think out of the box!
1. Clue Races
A clue race around the playground is much like the Amazing Race, only on a smaller, safer scale. The most important thing to check is if the playground has basic safety features: rubber mulch flooring to absorb the impact of falls, rust-free bars, and padded corners.
You might want to make a special trip to the playground before the weekend to map out the course for your children. Bear in mind that not all of the clues or the challenges have to require physical strength. Mix it up! Some clues could be math questions related to their current lessons. You can also throw in a few word puzzles.
This is a good opportunity to teach kids the value of teamwork. You could even invite other kids in the neighborhood for succeeding races. Perhaps, you can rally other parents to take turns designing the races.
2. Hot Lava
The objective of this game is to complete a set route without touching the ground. Again, safety should be the foremost concern. Deliberately begin a level below your kids’ physical abilities to give them a boost of confidence. You bigger goal should be to teach them not to overestimate or underestimate themselves. Start slow, with low obstacles. Make sure you’re always close enough to supervise them.
