Whether you’re a parent or a teacher, organizing a cleanup drive for the public playground is a fantastic idea. On top of doing the community a great service, you also create an opportunity for the local kids to be empowered and socially aware.
It could be tricky to deal with a lot of kids at the same time, and have them do actual “work.” As long your goal is clear, all you need to do is put some structure to your brilliant plan and make a fun, productive day out of it. 1. Start with a small, familiar group of kids
Your idea will be more attractive if the kids can see how joining the cleanup would benefit them. This is why it’s important to start with a small group of kids—either your class or your kid’s friends—who all regularly use the playground.
Starting small is important, especially since this will be your first. Mistakes will be made, and a small group will be easier to “damage control.”
2. Get the support of parents
Getting the support of fellow parents is very crucial. They should be aware of this activity. It would be great if the parents actually work with their kids, to lead by example and to make sure their children are safe.
This is a very good opportunity to bond with the kids, and to work together for the children’s cause.
3. Check for safety
Safety should be top priority before and during the cleanup. Make sure that the kids understand which part of the playground they’ll be working on. Rules should be set before the cleanup for both parents and kids. Make sure that the area is covered with rubber mulch flooring to prevent accidents and injuries.
