3 Tips to Get Involved with Your Child’s Sport
Getting involved with your child’s athletic endeavors doesn’t have to be stressful time-consuming. Besides the regular on-court or on-field training, there are take-home exercises and conditioning that can be done well under parental supervision.
The public playground may be made conducive to your child’s athletic development while you reap tremendous benefits for the entire family. Your child gets to progress and you can be there every step of the way. In fact, you may even join in.
Here are 3 tips that can help you become an integral part of something that is very important to your child.
1. Watch the TV and YouTube
Athletes in action could explain your child’s chosen sport better than reading static text. After getting to know the sport, go online and search for the top athletes of the game—the ones your child could be idolizing. It makes for a great conversation topic with your child while showing them that you’re genuinely interested.
2. Maximize playground time
Playground time is fun time. However, you can always incorporate a form of light training that benefits your child’s performance. You can hammer down the importance of warming up and cooling down by stretching and loosening up before and after playtime. A light jog going to or coming home from the playground is also a good idea.
You and your child can hit the running trail but it would be better to find a jogging route that is covered with rubber mulch. Rubber mulch flooring significantly reduces impact on the knees and ankles allowing you to avoid training injuries.
3. Maximize use of playground equipment
With the help of monkey bars, you and your child could be on your way towards stronger upper body and core muscles. Make sure you put a little structure to the fun—say 3 passes though the monkey bars back and forth. Adjust accordingly.
It is wise to check first if your public playground has the basic safety features such as padding and good rubber mulch flooring to prevent accidents.
