How to Improve Playground Safety in Your Area

We all want a safe place, like a playground for our children to play, so what do we do if we think that our local playground is not up to scratch? We should not sit and do nothing, but make a stand. Here are some actions you can take.

Talk to other parents and kids at the playground to find out what the favorite and least favorite apparatus are. You can also find out if the children have had any injuries at the playground. This will determine whether there is real concern for playground safety, and you will be able to find potential parent allies for your playground safety campaign. You can involve them in the actions below.

You can personally complete playground safety checks on your local playground, and if you find anything that concerns you, like hard asphalt surfaces under play equipment, then write a letter to the playground owner. If this yields no positive results, then approach your local newspaper with your concerns. They will only be too happy to print something that affects the whole community.

You can teach your kids five playground safety rules or get a guest speaker to talk to children at school about safety in the playground. If children are made aware of playground safety rules, we stand a good chance of improving playground safety in our local area.

Lastly, you can write to the local state governor with your playground concerns, get a petition together with local parents in the area and make the state aware of your playground safety concerns. The more parents that write in, the more likely the state will take action on concerns about playground safety.

One thing you should make the owner of the playground aware of is how the use of rubber mulch would be a lot safer for your children – direct them to www.rubberecyle.com.
