Another Victory for Rubber Mulch in the Playground

Being such an advocate of rubber mulch, I am really happy to read success stories about rubber mulch applications. I came across one such story today entitled ‘Blue Mulch, Green Park’ about the first playground in the city of Corpus Christi to have rubber mulch installed.

The Kid’s Place playground is the first playground to switch from wood mulch to rubber mulch in a move to becoming a greener city. This is fully backed by the Corpus Christi Career Development Class 2008, who have created community projects to make their city greener. It was twenty volunteers from this class who spread the 62 tons of rubber mulch needed to create this safer and greener playground. (more…)

I don’t want to hear any excuses, you do have time to be environmentally friendly and here are 6 ways, you can be environmentally friendly today, as you prepare to go to work, and in the workplace too.

  1. Make yourself some sandwiches to take to work. You will be helping the environment by not driving somewhere to buy your lunch, and also saving on the packaging that comes with shop bought lunches.

Considerations in choosing the best equine arena footing

As a horse rider and owner, I remember that I got my fastest running time on a rubber track, and my horse had a glorious spring in his step too.

I decided it was high time to get my own equine arena footing and started reading and seeking advice on the matter.

As some of my horses are aging now, my first consideration was for them, as rubber footing could extend their riding years and their own comfort on the track. I recalled reading a recent article ‘Why Horses Love Surefoot Surfacing’ and I was almost convinced of my decision already!

Recycling Tire Mistakes

Over the past few decades, some people had the bright idea to build artificial reefs with tires. Now when I first head this, I imagined little colorful rubber plants and rocks – what a great idea!

No, it didn’t mean this, well not in the case of Osborne Reef, off the coast of Fort Lauderdale. In the 1970s, over 200 million tires were ‘reused’ and clipped together with steel clips and ceremoniously dumped in an effort to replicate a reef that game fish would inhabit.
